Written on: Friday March 16, 2012 Message: Hey! So i'm new to this whole triathlon stuff.
I've just finished a few sprint triathlons and
just getting ready for another one in April. I'm
looking to get me a decent bike and just wondering
what the big difference is between a road bike and
a tri bike. I'm a poor college student so any help
in deciding the right bike the first time would be
awesome. Thanks! |

articles and forums that pop up. There is a lot of
information that can help you make a good
decision. IMHO, a good road bike with some
attached aero bars will do you fine and is more
versatile if you are just doing shorter races (up
to olympic). If you are going to do longer races a
tri bike may benefit you because of the increased
aerodynamics, and perhaps better legs for the run.
Here is one article I found useful:

tri? i.e. road racing or group rides? If not, I
would go with a tri bike. Like WH said though, a
good entry level road bike with aero bars are fine
too if you can find one more affordable.
Whatever way you go though, I think the
most important thing is the FIT! Make sure you go
to your LBS, test all of their bikes in your price
range and get the advice of a professional bike
fitter (not just a sales guy).
If you
don't already own clip in shoes and other
accessories make sure to add those to your budget
too. You don't want to end up with a sweet ass
ride and toe cages :) |

and some HIM. If your doing shorter races now,
choose the road bike.
Figure out your
budget, then figure out whats out there for that
price and go try them out! |
