Message: Wow, this just made my day as they have a full in Traverse City. I was going to wait till 2013 to do another full, but can't pass one up in my back yard.

Message: still, some competition with WTC is probably good...some cool locations. They do allow a transfer to another race, which is kinda nice.

Message: I would do one, if they wouldn't cram 3000 people into a mass swim start, but seems this is what a lot of people want. Not me,but I must be in the minority. I would love to see it succeed, but saw the 101 series fold within the first year. I wish this company better luck.

Message: Make sure to check the distances of the race you pick. Not all of them are the same and a lot of them aren't "standard." It doesn't matter to me but if you care about doing 70.3 or 140.6 then be careful!

Message: I put a post up on July 20th when I first saw this. They are standardizing the distances (according to their newsletter), and the distances are split over two days so that should cut down on the water traffic during the swim. I can't see how they can afford to run this series, but I sure hope they pull it off since the WTC needs some competition. It's a bummer that the only way to get to Kona is to do a WTC race. HITS will need to bargin hard to get the "heads of state" to dump a Kona appearance to do the HITS championship. Maybe some pros will try to do both?

Message: Like Susan said - check with the race description before you sign up. THe Galena, IL race advertises all distances, but the half and the full iron are not 70.3 or 140.6, respectively. Still, could be a fun event with all distances and a freebie novice race to help introduce the sport to newbies - and all of this done over a weekend.

Message: I'm with Dot. The best 70.3 I've done was the inaugural 2011 Grand Rapids Triathlon which was limited to 1000 slots for the sprint, OLY and 70.3. It was wonderful swimming w/o the Mdot chaos. The bike was also more enjoyable w/o blocking and drafting. It was cheaper then a WTC event an had good SWAG. It may work if they get heavy participation in all distances. I will sign up because it's a race in my neighorhood which makes it so much more affordable. The weather on October 7 in TC can be really cold.

Message: Nice to see competition I think the WTC has become ridiculous the last 4 years. I have done over 100 tri races now and other than Lake Placid not one IM race is in my top 20 anymore. Can't wait to hear some reports on how this series goes.

Message: The half in Cooperstown sounds pretty tempting to me too Jamie. Not only do I get to do a challenging race in a great setting, but friends and family will have a great time while supporting me. My bball obsessed son has already marked it on his calendar!

Message: That is cool Laura! We might see you there! I think I will opt for the half myself and might bring some of my athletes I coach up too. We stopped by the hall one year on the way back from Lake Placid and that is a really nice chill area. I hope they like the race and keep it there!!
