Subject: first BRICK, dead leg By: John H.

Written on: Thursday July 02, 2009 Message: I tried my first BRICK the other night in
preperation for my first triathlon. After about a
6 mile bike ride (lots of hills) I jumped off my
bike, changed my shoes, and took off running.
Problem: After a couple minutes my left leg went
dead. It siezed up and refused to work. I had to
turn around and walk back (which took forever do
to the dead leg). Anyone had this happen? Any
ideas? |

inadequate sodium intake and dehydration can cause
cramping. |

Written on: Friday July 03, 2009 Message: Gosh I'm disagreeable these days :) Doen't sound
like a strength or needs more training issue to
me.
I don't know what's wrong but it sounds
like a pinched nerve or worse yet a circulation
thing.
Do you have any other clues that
you're not mentioning? |

Written on: Friday July 03, 2009 Message: funny, I just talked to a friend who had the same
issue at ImCDA and couldn't finish. Don't second
guess it, see a doc. If he had done that when it
first started months ago, he probably would not
have wasted months of training on a DNF. |

Written on: Friday July 03, 2009 Message: Agree with above. Tight calves which give way
after taking it easy for the first half mile can
be pretty normal. Need to give your legs a chance
to make the transition. If it was more than that
then I would see someone. |

Written on: Saturday July 04, 2009 Message: Umm no, this does not sound like something normal
to get used to. After 6 miles on the bike and a
couple minutes on the run your leg seized up and
would not function? Not normal... |

Written on: Saturday July 04, 2009 Message: Dead, how? Tingly? Pain? Or literally no feeling?
If you couldn't even walk on it, then it could be
a biomechanical issue. Go see a doc. |

Written on: Sunday July 05, 2009 Message: Definitely not right. Your legs should start off
feeling a bit dead and then get normalized, not
the other way around. |

you and hopping on one leg all the way back? |
